CURRICULUM PHILOSOPHY
What Learning Looks Like at Seaside
This is how Seaside’s arts-integrated approach supports instruction aligned with Florida’s academic standards. Most schools ask children to sit still and absorb information. Seaside asks them to explore, create, move, and make meaning. That’s the Seaside difference.
At Seaside, teachers deliver curriculum through Main Lesson Blocks – extended immersive units that allow students to go deep into a subject rather than skimming across many. A Main Lesson Block on ancient civilizations doesn’t just cover dates and names. Students illustrate their own main lesson books, dramatize historical events, compose poetry about the cultures they’re studying, and connect history to mathematics, language arts, and the natural world.
This is how Waldorf-inspired education meets and exceeds Florida State Standards. The standards define what students learn. The Waldorf-inspired method defines how deeply they learn it.

Weekly outdoor cultivation connects students to science, ecology, nutrition, and community responsibility. Every Seaside campus maintains an active garden that is part of the living curriculum.

Middle schoolers learn woodworking as a hands-on applied arts program, developing spatial thinking, precision, craftsmanship, and the confidence that comes from building something real.
Middle School Athletics

Interscholastic athletics in volleyball, soccer, basketball, and flag football. Athletics at Seaside extend the whole-child philosophy – teamwork, discipline, resilience, and community built on and off the field.
FLORIDA STANDARDS & WALDORF METHODS
Whole-Child Teaching. Florida Standards-Aligned Learning.
Teacher Continuity
When possible, students may remain with the same teacher across multiple grade levels. This approach can provide greater consistency and strengthen relationships between students, teachers and families, although placement and teacher continuity are not guaranteed
Arts Woven Into Every Day
Violin. Handwork. Gardening. Woodwork. Spanish. Not electives – core to who we are, every grade, every campus, every day.
Learning That Moves
Clapping through multiplication tables. Illustrating main lesson books. Acting out history. Moving, making, and doing is how Seaside students learn best. Many families tell us Seaside is the first school where their child truly thrived.
Conscious Discipline
Conscious Discipline is a classroom-management and social-emotional learning approach used to help students develop self-regulation, communication and problem-solving skills.

CONSCIOUS DISCIPLINE
A Classroom Community, Not Just a Classroom
Learning happens best when children feel safe, seen and connected. Seaside uses Conscious Discipline as a classroom-management and social-emotional learning approach that supports a positive, connected classroom community.
Through everyday classroom routines and interactions, students practice self-regulation, communication, conflict resolution and problem-solving skills. This approach helps students learn how to understand their emotions, work through disagreements and contribute positively to their classroom community.
FESTIVALS & EVENTS
Learning Through Celebration
Waldorf-inspired education marks the rhythm of the year through seasonal festivals that are as much a part of the curriculum as any lesson. At Seaside, the school year has a living rhythm. Festivals aren’t interruptions to academic life – they’re expressions of it.
Michaelmas
Courage and community at the start of the school year. Games, storytelling, and the gathering of the school family.
Winter Spiral
The most quietly beautiful Seaside tradition. Each child walks a candlelit spiral and lights their own candle from the center flame. Silence, reverence, and wonder.
May Day
Maypole weaving, flower crowns, and the full arrival of spring. Celebrated at all three campuses.
Lantern Walk
A seasonal light ceremony marking the transition into darker months. Campus-specific dates and traditions.
Seaside is open to every family in Duval County – free public lottery, no barriers.
